Lyn Gettys, Ph.D.

Dr. Lyn Gettys is an Associate Professor of Agronomy at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Davie. Before joining the center in 2012, Dr. Gettys worked as a post-doctoral researcher and a research assistant scientist at the UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants in Gainesville. Dr. Gettys earned her bachelor's in Horticulture from the University of Florida, her master's in Plant Breeding from North Carolina State University, and a Ph.D. in Plant Genetics from the University of Florida. Dr. Getty’s research focuses on the biology and ecology of native and introduced aquatic and wetland plants and the evaluation of control methods for managing invasive species.

Dr. Gettys coordinates the UF/IFAS Aquatic Weed Control Short Course, holds statewide Extension responsibilities for aquatic weed control, and has authored or co-authored over 200 publications. Dr. Gettys has been recognized for her research and outreach efforts by the Florida State Horticultural Society, the Florida Aquatic Plant Management Society, and the Florida Lake Management Society. She was also awarded a University of Florida Term Professorship in 2018.
